Emily Marvosh and Margot Rood commissioned Ode to Lake Michigan as part of the Michigan Recital Project, a concert series devoted to songs by composers and poets from Michigan. The text is by my long-time friend and muse, Richelle Wilson. The cycle uses a distinctly American harmonic language, reminiscent of Copland. The work is a cycle of seven short character pieces to be performed attacca.
The work was premiered in Boston in October, and subsequently toured in Michigan.
