Late at Night

SATB and piano / 6 minutes

Costas Dafnis, friend and fellow composer studying at Centenary College in Louisiana, wrote Late at Night I Listen to the Stars in 2006. The poem is a typical example of his lyrical mysticism, integrating themes of the cosmos and awe of an omnipotent creator. The music, my third attempt at setting this haunting text, is finally somewhat successful with the use of piano, an expanded tertian harmonic language, a number of special effects, and extensive word painting.
